Roulette is one of the most popular casino games. The game was born somewhere at the beginning of the 18th century, but there are not so many types of roulette as other casino games have. Nowadays, there are two main variations of roulette - American and European.

The main difference that the player will notice is the zeros on the roulette wheel. The European version has one zero (0) and the American version has a double zero (00). This results in changing the house edge to the favour of the player in the European version.

Another big difference between these two versions is the pockets or slots located within the wheel. There are 37 pockets on the European wheel and 38 pockets on the American wheel.

According to European as well as French roulette rules, the player can wager on 37 numbers: from 1 to 36 and 0, while in American roulette the player can bet on 38 numbers: from 1 to 36, 0 and 00. Thanks to this additional double-zero the house edge increases nearly 2 times. American roulette offers two additional bets - Five bet (covers numbers - 0, 00, 1, 2 and 3 with 6:1 payout, and Zero split - 0 and 00 with 19:1 payout). Other payouts are similar for both roulette variations. For more information see American and European roulette.

Modern Roulette Games

Modern casinos, especially online casinos, offer players new variations of roulette with extra features, for example:

Multi-ball roulette

Multi-ball roulette is similar to European roulette but there are some exceptions. The player has a possibility to roll up to 3 balls on the wheel, thereby getting three winning results. If the player wants to play with more than one ball, his/her bet is divided into 2 or 3 equal shares (depends on the number of balls used). There are other additional bets, but everything depends on the casino where you are playing.

No Zero roulette

No Zero roulette is a great innovation on the casino market. This type of roulette excludes house edge! There is no Zero slot on the roulette wheel. There are 36 numbers to bet on and there is no big risk to lose in contrast to any other roulette game.

Mini-roulette

Mini-roulette is a roulette variation to easy the gambling process. The game has the same rules as in European roulette. The main difference is the number of slots on the wheel. Mini-roulette wheel has only 12 numbered slots to put bets on. The payouts differ from European roulette as well. The player can make the following bets: Straight bet, red/black, even/odd, row and combination bets.

Progressive Roulette

Most Microgaming online casinos offer progressive roulette game - Roulette Royale.

The casinos do everything to attract more players and they try to invent roulette games without house edge. However, roulette is still one of the most unpredictable games of chance.
