Her husband Ren� Angelil was in 2000 accused of groping a certain Yun Kyeong Sung Kwon, an ordained minister of the Full Gospel World Church. She claimed they had a brief discussion and that as she was departing, Angelil trailed her to her room at the Imperial Palace and compelled her to engage in sexual intercourse against her will.

Angelil's lawyer said that the lawsuit was an absurd fabrication contrived by opportunistic people looking for a way to make money. A short time after the suit was initiated, Reverend Kwon was arrested for having signed more than $500,000 worth of bad checks. She was further discovered to have more than $500,000 in additional, gambling debt. Her credibility plunged lower than a non-paying poker hand; the charges against Angelil were dropped.
