Blackjack Basic Strategy

Blackjack is one of few casino games wherein the player can determine his own fortune. This thing makes blackjack very attractive since this is the game in which the player can win if he knows how to do it. So, throughout the blackjack history a great number of different systems have been invented with the aim to beat the casino. Here we will tell you about the most outstanding strategies.

Blackjack Basic Strategy

One of the main things any player must know before sitting at the table to play blackjack is the basic strategy. This strategy is based on the mathematics of blackjack and was tested through computer simulations. If the player follows it correctly the house edge is reduced to the minimum. It is the best way to play every possible combination.

Basic strategy is usually given in charts and provides the player with a matrix that shows what to do —hit, stay, double, split, or surrender in any situation. The strategy indicates which decision increases the odds, removing the superstitions that double player’s losses.

To get the benefits from the basic strategy, it must be used properly. The decisions are mathematically proven to be the best, and any deviation in long run will decrease players’ winnings—even though, sometimes, a move contrary to the basic strategy works better.

Sequence is important. Based on odds and probabilities the strategy doesn’t guarantee that the player will win all hands. From time to time following the strategy can bring consistent losses, for example, if you stand on 13 against a dealer's 5 and lose three times one after the other, you may want to dismiss this strategy. But in the long run, the likelihood bears itself out: if you stand on 13 against a dealer's 5 a thousand times, more hands will be won than lost.

The basic strategy must be used correctly. You should use the correct chart, you can’t apply the chart for a single-deck game to, for example, a six-deck game, it adds to the house edge.
